Rugby Union Part 3 Quiz

Rugby union originated in England, associated with Rugby School in the 19th century where early forms of the game were played.

The main objective is to score tries by grounding the ball in the opponent’s in-goal area or to score via goal kicks.

Seven backs focus on running, passing, and kicking in open play. They include scrum-half, fly-half, centres, and back three.

The touchline marks the sides of the field. When the ball crosses it, play stops and restarts with a lineout.

The scrum front row consists of two props and a hooker. They bind together and contest the ball during scrums.

Each half begins with a drop kick from the centre of the field to restart play in rugby union.

During a scrum, the hooker attempts to hook the ball backward with the foot to gain possession for the team.

The in-goal area lies behind the goal line. Grounding the ball there results in a try in rugby union.

The scrum-half collects the ball from scrums, rucks, and mauls and distributes it to the backs, linking both groups.

In rugby union, the ball must not be passed forward. Legal passes must travel backward or sideways relative to the passer.
