Muhammad Ali, originally named Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr., was born in Louisville in 1942.

Muhammad Ali, then known as Cassius Clay, defeated Poland's Zbigniew Pietrzykowski to win the gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1960 Rome Olympics.

In 1967, Muhammad Ali was stripped of his boxing titles after refusing to be drafted into the military due to his religious beliefs and moral opposition to the Vietnam War. He was subsequently found guilty of draft evasion.

Muhammad Ali fought George Foreman in the "Rumble in the Jungle" in Kinshasa, which was then known as Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Muhammad Ali faced Japanese wrestler Antonio Inoki in a mixed-rules match on June 26, 1976. The bout, held in Tokyo, was one of the earliest high-profile crossover fights between boxing and professional wrestling, and it was broadcast on early Pay-Per-View.

After being exiled from boxing for refusing military induction, Muhammad Ali made his comeback on October 26, 1970, against Jerry Quarry in Atlanta, Georgia. Ali won the fight via TKO in the third round.

Muhammad Ali's final professional boxing match took place on December 11, 1981, against Trevor Berbick. Berbick emerged victorious, winning the bout through a unanimous decision after the full 10 rounds. The fight occurred in Nassau, Bahamas.
